PhotoDiva

Another thing that I find handy is Photodiva, it's a portrait software that handles pictures just as good as Photoshop or Photoworks do, but it's just exceptionally good for quick editing of portraits. Bonus points are that it's free and super beginner friendly (in fact, that's where I started from).
