Cookie not setting on client's browser, express-session / socket.io

I'm having quite a unique problem. My server is written in Express and Socket.io. I'm using the 'express-session' package to share session data. I'm using Redis, via 'connect-redis' as the session store. I've followed the how to use express-session guide on socket.io as close as possible.

In production, the backend is on "<subdomain>..com", frontend is on "<domain>.com". Actually, the backend is deployed on App Engine Flexible on Google Cloud Platform, but I've made my subdomain point to the App Engine address for the backend.
