Darik's Boot and Nuke

How you do it is up to you. If you want to take out the whole drive (including information that isn't yours, which you probably shouldn't do - but that is up to you) then I recommend using Darik's Boot and Nuke. This will overwrite the drive with random data. Have it do 3 to 7 passes to meet DoD standards (although they will do that and then physically destroy the drives for the really sensitive stuff).
