Good luck :) perseverance is everything. I’d suggest setting up a WP install just for yourself to experiment on, apart from any client project. You can use something like https://localwp.com/ to install it right on your computer so you don’t need another server or domain (lots of other tools like it, but Local’s probably the simplest for a newcomer — and you’re so lucky stuff like this exists now… the old days were hellish for noobs).

Another one for your list of resources: Https://css-tricks.com/ There’s great stuff on this site and a lot of it is comprehensible by beginners. CSS is fun — and it’s way better to learn to write it yourself rather than trying to find plugins that do it for you.
