Personally I use various virtual cards for all subscriptions through https://privacy.com/ same thing that I imagine some credit companies support. But you can name and set the balance and number of transactions or just have a sockpuppet card with no balance just to redeem the trial and burn it.

Lichess

Pay-to-play games are profitable enough to afford advertising budgets, whereas actually-free games are (necessarily) not — lichess is astonishingly excellent, but it's never gonna run banner ads anywhere.
