Another approach you could take is to look at urbandictionary.com for "mid" and notice that a GREAT majority of entries were created post-2021, again aligning with what I wrote. Again, this trend would indicate that I am correct.

Know Your Meme

As far as sources, what I quoted directly was knowyourmeme.com, which is... Basically just what that site does. As far as the legitimacy of sources is concerned, it's about the most useful tool for a conversation like this that exists period, and it's entries agree with my thesis. It's entire algorithm is dedicated to sussing out and explaining recent internet fads and it has identified "mid" as a recent internet fad.
