And Proton is a special piece of software that runs on SteamOS and allows it to play Windows games. Proton is Steam's (the company) fork of the open-source Wine project. To play Windows games on Linux, you need one or both of Proton or Wine, which you can get by installing Steam for Linux and Lutris, respectively. Use Steam for Linux to play any game available via Steam, and Lutris to play any other game not available there.
