People say you should only buy a Ledger directly from the retailer. Would I be taking a risk buying one from Amazon?

I did not. The interesting fact is that they left almost $10K in ETH, if you would have the key, why not take it all... Did the staking in crypto.com but had moved the crypto to another account. I have signed mart contracts but all on ETH, so not clear how it would have been done. No DAPPs on ledger...
