DS (first four Digimon Story titles): There is a correct answer and it is melonDS. While other emulators, like DeSmuMe (which I used to use) do exist, they are worse. The first two games' English translations were, for some reason, rebranded. Digimon Story became "World DS," and Digimon Story Sunburst/Moonlight became "World Dawn/Dusk." The third game, Lost Evolution, was not officially published in English, and it is thus currently in the process of translation by a dedicated group of fans. Release is expected in December. (The fourth game is currently completely untranslated.) When the Lost Evolution translation does come out, it will take the form of a patch that you must apply to your Japanese ROM, in a format called "IPS." Applying an IPS patch requires a separate program called Lunar IPS. (Make sure you back up your original ROM before using it in case something goes wrong!).

GameCube (World 4): If you choose to play this game, use the Dolphin emulator. It's been actively maintained for the GameCube's and Wii's entire lifespan and is basically the best in class. (Note: You don't want to play this game. It is janky as all hell, and it wants to be played in multiplayer with multiple NG+ playthroughs.).
