Rust is a multiplayer open-world survival game made by Facepunch Studios, and the game released into early access December 2013, and then fully released Febuary 2018. The game's development started as a clone of DayZ, featuring elements from Minecraft. Garry Newman, the CEO of Facepunch Studios said, "Rust started off as a DayZ clone. But then we decided that we are sick of fighting zombies. And can't compete with the Arma island in terms of landmarks and towns." As previously stated, Rust is basically DayZ without the zombies, and with building and resourse farming and other features similar to Minecraft, and Arma 3 without all of the POIs. The game's description on Steam says this, "The only aim in Rust is to survive. Everything wants you to die - the island’s wildlife and other inhabitants, the environment, other survivors. Do whatever it takes to last another night." That explains what Rust is, as it is the game's description. You can gather resources naturally by farming them, or stealing them from other players by killing them or raiding their base.
