Ipfs.io is actually a website that run the HTTP protocol. There may be no IPFS protocol involved. (I.e. Maybe they cache popular IPFS files using a HTTP cache, or maybe they secretly alter files, inject ads, etc. You have no way of knowing. Any IPFS guarantees are out the window because you are not running IPFS.).
