iCloud is cloud service done right. It stores your music, photos, apps, calendars, documents, and more. And wirelessly pushes them to all your devices.
You'd have to export them from gmail and then import into iCloud. Easiest to do it from the websites. Go to contacts.google.com and there's an export button. Export them as a vcard. Then go to your contacts on icloud.com and click the gear icon in the lower left and hit import vcard.
