Roam Research

Here's some reasons: - You are a CS student and mastering Emacs (to a certain level) could help with other parts of your studies in addition to serving as your dev & notes environment. It will encourage you to learn Lisp/functional programming which might give you different perspectives (and you'll likely have a functional programming class sooner or later anyway) - You can easily practice literate programming. Mixing code & notes in single document. - You will get various export options from Org (PDF, Markdown, HTML etc). This could come in useful for writing actual papers or reports for school. And you can do it in the same environment in which you made those notes. - As needed you can add LaTeX support to handle citations/bibliography and equations. All while being in the same environment you are writing code and notes in. - You could also add something like org-roam to be able to cross-link ideas a-la Zettelkasten method. This might be especially useful while doing research into new topics and condensing information (which you will likely do during your studies). This is modeled after Roam Research which is quite well known in academic circles I believe.

Doom Emacs

It might not be entirely for the feint-hearted, but if you use something like Spacemacs or Doom starter kits it should not be too hard to start.

Xournal++

I have a stylus support on my notebook so I mainly use Xournal++. But sometimes I use it without stylus just to write stuff directly on pdf slides. It might be useful in some situations.
