    As you pointed out scss is no extension to css. You can achieve the same result with plain css. Unfortunately I can’t tell you if scss is an industry standard bc my company uses a UI component library so we only need to tweak some styles if at all. For bigger hobby projects I like to use scss bc for me the code structure is much easier. Some css frameworks like bulma use scss so I guess it’s definitely useful for bigger projects.
