Here's one for you. Wikipedia has a decent page about the PRISM) project. Tech companies denied knowing about it and confirmed that they only disclose info with a warrant, but the point is that they have your data in the first place. Using something like Linux or BSD, you don't give a third party the opportunity to betray you in the first place. I feel like this is also a good place to drop some links for Libreboot, Coreboot, DuckDuckGo, Firefox settings for increased privacy.
