    Once I have a topic I want to go to the research on, I start with Google Scholar. It’s easier to search for papers through a tool that’s only for papers. And once you’ve found some on a topic, you’ve broken the ice, and it becomes easier to find more. As /u/[techocity] says, it helps to follow chains of citations. If you like a paper, look at what the paper cites to find more “fundamental” papers and what papers cite it to see what other people have built on top of it. You can also look by author too; most university faculty have a page listing all of their publications so if I like someone’s papers I’ll check there to see what else they’ve done.
