OpenTelemetry Journey #00 - Introduction to OpenTelemetry

OpenTracing OpenCensus
  1. Consistent, expressive, vendor-neutral APIs for distributed tracing and context propagation.
OpenTelemetry it's a result from the merge of two important projects that are now archived: OpenTracing and OpenCensus. The project is incubated in Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and has a strong community behind it. The CNCF is part of the Linux Foundation and hosts critical components of the global technology infrastructure, including Kubernetes and Prometheus. Currently, OpenTelemetry is the second most active project in terms of contributors in CNCF, only behind Kubernetes. As the project is part of a foundation, it has no commercial interests and is governed by a community of contributors, it means that the project license will not change easily (like happened with important open-source tools like Elastic) and the project will not be abandoned by a single company.
