Fast forward to this morning when I saw mention of an older audio app called Airfoil in a different context, and I remembered I used this app to cast to other devices ages ago. I see that they support HomePods specifically now and decided to download and give it a try (bonus: my license from 2016 is still valid) It's been rock solid for over 2 hours now. This does not fix lag, but I can now use my HomePods as... Source: about 1 year ago
Late the party here, but using Airfoil on my main mac is the answer to this question that finally cracked this hellish task for me. Source: about 1 year ago
Depending on what exactly you want to achieve either Rogue Amoeba’s SoundSource or Airfoil. Source: about 1 year ago
Is the office computer near the audio setup? If you want to go budget and use equipment you already have, you should check out Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil software. You could use your computer as a transmitter to AirPlay devices. The iMac would have to go in the chain between the CD player/turntable pre-amp and the receiver. Basically, you can route the audio input of your computer to any/all devices on your network... Source: over 1 year ago
Not sure if this does exactly what you want it to but there is an app called AirFoil. Source: over 1 year ago
Finally got my multiroom audio working properly via OpenHAB this weekend... Fancied doing a bit of a writeup to basically say - was it worth it? It's functionally as good as a Sonos system (tho I haven't compared bitrates etc) for the price of a cheap $30 lifetime licence for airfoil, and infinitely extendable with standard kit rather than specific sonof hardware. Paid solution, Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba. I've been using it on a 2012 Mac Mini for years before it was added into macOS (and I still use it now to be an Airplay AUDIO only receiver). Source: over 1 year ago
I haven’t used it in years, but I think airfoil also worked https://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/. Source: over 1 year ago
Then I went to the Rogue Amoeba website (who develop the audio driver) and since they have updated their apps for Ventura, I downloaded the free version of Airfoil (https://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/). Source: over 1 year ago
This is amazing! For many years, I've been a happy customer (no other affiliation) of Rogue Amoeba, whose (closed-source, commercial) Airfoil software https://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/ does all this & more (MacOS and iOS only). I've had a multi room audio setup with Airport Expresses and dumb powered M-Audio bookshelf speakers for the past 10 years going strong! I love this project, but for folks who use MacOS... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
On a Mac, you can use the app Airfoil ($35, the same or cheaper than bluetooth splitters and such). Source: almost 2 years ago
It’s pretty convoluted but if you have a Mac you may be able to use Airfoil. Source: almost 2 years ago
Have you looked on the App Store to see if there are any apps that offer some type of superseding control over media playback? I'm not aware of any just because I've never needed one or looked, but there very well could be. For comparison, on Macs there's a program called AirFoil https://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/ That lets you control AirPlay more centrally, and from any app at all rather than just the ones... I haven't used AirFoil but RogueAmoeba (fantastic indie Mac dev shop) makes a utility specifically to right the wrongs of AirPlay. Https://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/. Source: about 2 years ago
