Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about Aether and what they use it for.
  • Call to Action: Fediverse Media Server
Check out Aether, sounds like exactly what you want. https://getaether.net/ I have no affiliation but I thought the project sounded interesting. - Source: Hacker News / 10 days ago
  • Bluesky starts letting users pick their own moderation filters
Is this compatible with aether? What are the differences? https://getaether.net/. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Can We Get More Decentralised Than the Fediverse?
Also Aether, which is a P2P Reddit. https://getaether.net/. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Known alternatives to linux_gaming on reddit
There's a sub on Aether called LinuxGaming as well. Source: 12 months ago
  • Reddit alternatives
Aether: getaether.net A decentralized, open-source platform for community discussions with strong privacy features. - Source: dev.to / 12 months ago
  • Reddit CEO says the mods leading a punishing blackout are too powerful and he will change the site's rules to weaken them
Sorry, but you don't need to code. You can install the software from any web hosting C-Panels. Or use a company that doesn't treat you this way. There are other alternatives as well, including some that are decentralized. Nothing Reddit does is unique, or hard to find in any of their competitors. For instance: https://getaether.net/ I highly doubt they are not getting paid. Source: 12 months ago
  • Are there any projects out there that are fully federated? Each community being a separate instance?
Aether sounds like what you want though. It's a reddit-style app that is in the pure decentralization model. Source: 12 months ago
  • Out of the currently existing alternatives, which is the most "Reddit-like"?
Aether App Https://getaether.net/ And the moderation model is super based. Source: 12 months ago
  • PLEASE move to federated and open-source alternatives like Lemmy and kbin.social as having ANY COMPANY be the platform owner is a really bad idea! (e.g. Reddit, Twitter, etc.)
But I don't see the point of going halfway when open source p2p solutions like https://getaether.net/ exist. A federated system like mastodon or lemmy still have a limited number of node and a disproportionate amount of power given to instance administrator. Source: 12 months ago
  • Why Tildes *May* Not Be The Best Place To Migrate To.
I found Aether earlier which looked like an interesting solution to these issues, but unfortunately it seems to be dead as far as I can tell. Source: 12 months ago
  • reddit: What is to be Done?
Aether has democratic moderator voting, elections, and impeachments... But a fork's being worked on after the dev abandoned the project. I don't think this meets your user-ownership bar, but it's the closest example I know of to it. Maybe some of the recent subreddit posts speak to more relevant projects. Source: 12 months ago
  • Haven't programmed professionally, but can't we just build a better alternative?
Can just do a P2P app, like Aether (getaether.net). No need for servers, supports mod elections and proof-of-work spam prevention. Just needs users. Source: 12 months ago
  • Switch to lemmy, its federated, privacy respecting reddit
Aether (peer to peer means maybe stuff will be stored, but it's also self-destruct by design). Source: 12 months ago
  • Should linux_gaming join the Reddit Blackout?
If any of this community is interested in an alternative, https://getaether.net/ has a native Linux client. Source: almost 1 year ago
  • Demo: Fully P2P and open source Reddit alternative we been workin on for 2 years
There is Aether since forever for that. https://getaether.net. - Source: Hacker News / almost 1 year ago
  • Should we go dark on the 12th?
There's a P2P alternative called Aether which has anti-spam features, moderator elections, etc. https://getaether.net/. Source: almost 1 year ago
  • Now that Reddit are killing 3rd party apps on July 1st what are great alternatives to Reddit?
Aether (https://getaether.net/), but it's not a website. Takes more involvement to get in. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Reddit may force Apollo dev and other third party clients to shut down
There's also aether which requires you download the client. The selling point is that you can subscribe to a moderation list (anybody can be/make one) and there's no server (everyone's a server). Source: about 1 year ago
  • Reddit's days are numbered (link inside). Where will we go instead?
Sure! Here are the domain links to the decentralized alternatives I mentioned: 1 Steemit: https://steemit.com/ 2 Mastodon: https://joinmastodon.org/ 3 Scuttlebutt: https://www.scuttlebutt.nz/ 4 ZeroNet: https://zeronet.io/ 5 Aether: https://getaether.net/ Please note that these links are current as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, and there's a possibility that the domains or... Source: about 1 year ago
  • Developer says Reddit will charge him $20M/yr API fees to keep his app working
    >The reality is that Apollo doesn't serve intrusive ads Because they aren't having to pay for hosting. The only way to replace reddit is with a distributed system like aether: https://getaether.net/ Or if you absolutely want a centralized system, something community run like ao3: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archive_of_Our_Own But given the absolute hostility and hate _users_ of reddit give those two sites for... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Iamthatis could you consider making an iOS app for Aether p2p social network?
Https://getaether.net is a p2p version of Reddit. It lacks mobile apps becuase of the p2p nature. If there was a way to have an iOS app link to a gateway to the p2p network it would be an amazing alternative to Reddit. Source: about 1 year ago
