Another option is to use something like https://www.wincatalog.com/disk-catalog-maker.html on pc or https://diskcatalogmaker.com/ on mac. They give you a searchable list of files on your drives whether they're plugged in or not. Source: almost 2 years ago
DiskCatalogMaker: I use it to catalog all of our external hard-drives, so I can search for specific projects or files without the need to connect them. I have a general view of all the drives and I can search through all of them easily. Source: over 2 years ago
