Https://simplenote.com/ Very simple collection of notes (think pile of index cards) Only has search and tags, no other organizational structure Markdown based: "write" mode and "view" mode No images/attachments (can link to things, but cannot store things) Can import multiple enex files, strips out images Cannot open multiple windows No ios shortcut Is truly no-cost, but don't abuse their systems.

A better way to organize team documents
Https://notejoy.com/ Felt the snappiest of everything I tried (but limited number of notes) Inline tagging with #tagname -- just like older wiki! Backlinks! -- wiki again! Wiki style internal references! Import via api -- bulk import yay! Editor is not as nice/expressive as new EN or nimbus, but better than old EN Cannot edit attached files Cannot minimze to system tray, so GUI is always out in front Felt very "business-y" in terms of features, internal collaboration, likes, etc -- good or bad? Can open multiple windows, but opening new windows is ass slow. Like it feels like starting notejoy takes The same amount of time as opening a new window. No ios shortcut Has a web clipper, but didn't get a chance to test.

The Markdown-based note-taking app that doesn't suck.Pricing:

I also tried https://notable.app/ , but it kept failing when I tried to import my EN stuff. It felt like simplenote: all you get is a pile of markdown notes with tags, but images and attachments are supported.

Https://joplinapp.org/ (what I'm using now, and have used the most of all of these) Import enex file one at a time Feels decently snappy: slower than old EN, faster than new EN Markdown based: "write" mode and "view" mode (but there is a wysiwig editor) Cannot open multiple windows... ...but does have tabs via plugins ...and can write markdown in external editor (my preferred editor is vi, so this works out) No built-in way to mark something as a favorite, pin to top , etc (but I'm faking it with some plugins and naming scheme) Lots of internal keyboard shortcuts, I think they can all be reassigned. Feels very DIY Not a service per se -- notes are shared via provider such as dropbox, onedrive, etc. There is a CLI version, but only on linux (or WSL on windows) ... But the app includes a webservice server, so my enscript scripts can be recreated and improved.
