My small stories are usually around 500 - 600 words, that I then have to file down to 500. Big stories are like 700 - 900 words, much harder to compress, so I write them directly in wordcounter.net to begin with.   If I'm writing a fic for a tumblr prompt, I typically write it in the tumblr post. Then I copy/paste it into wordcounter.net to see if I want to crosspost. (Given that I crosspost to both AO3 and FFN, and I have to come up with a title, the cost/benefit analysis makes me feel like it isn't worth it unless the fic is 500+ words.). • Do you guys use Grammarly or any other editing program to edit your fics?

  These are my sins too, so I'll recommend hemingway app and wordcounter — they're both free to use in the browser which is handy, although I went ahead and bought hemingway because I like to be able to work offline. You can even scale up the keyword density specs in wordcounter to catch overused phrases. Source: about 1 year ago
