I wonder if it can be run on a gaming GPU? One of my wish list games is ‘universe sandbox’ https://universesandbox.com/. Source: 3 months ago
Planets and solar systems are buildable with Universe Sandbox (steam), I used it for my main setting. Source: 4 months ago
I created Universe Sandbox, a realistic physics-based space simulator. I started working on the idea as a side project just for fun back in 2007 and released it on my website for free in 2008. I later transitioned that to a name-your-own-price model and then to a fixed price. When it (now known as Universe Sandbox Legacy) was first released on Steam in 2011, it sold more in the first hour than I'd sold on my... Source: 5 months ago
There are also a lot of apps that let you "explore" the surface of other planets and Moon, and Space. And even cooler apps like "Universe Sandbox", that let you build solar systems, double stars, planets, galaxies, see black holes created after stars collision.. And watch these simulations like movies. This app is just amazing! My son plays with it for hours since he was 5. Https://universesandbox.com/. Source: 5 months ago
Are you sure there were characters involved? The description in the actual quote could be something more like Universe Sandbox. Source: 6 months ago
Non-games can be commercially successful, see for example https://universesandbox.com. Many simulation-type games also have sandbox or “creative” modes, which can sometimes become more popular than the ‘game’ or ‘campaign’ mode. Source: 6 months ago
Thanks for the mention of Universe Sandbox. Source: 6 months ago
Try it out and see: Https://universesandbox.com/. Source: 6 months ago
Let's assume the Star A and the Black Hole B hole orbited each other when the black hole was Star B. If Star B collapsed into a black hole of roughly the same mass, I don't think Star A & it's planets would be affected much at all in terms or orbits. Maybe the Star A system would have been fried when Star B went supernova, but the orbits I don't think would change all that much. It's like how people say Earth... - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago

I had it backwards. It's Universe Sandbox. Https://universesandbox.com/. Source: 8 months ago
I'm the creator and director of Universe Sandbox. I'm happy to answer any questions. Source: 8 months ago
Yeah, this is possible in Universe Sandbox. I wrote up more comments about how Universe Sandbox works and what we're simulating a bit higher up. Source: 8 months ago
... Is totally something you can do in Universe Sandbox right now, both on desktop and VR. Source: 8 months ago
This is very cool. This makes me smile a lot. Thanks for the mention. I am the creator & director of Universe Sandbox. Our company is called Gaint Army, after the phrase standing on the shoulders of giants. So thanks to all the work by all the humans before us that let us make Universe Sandbox. My Mom painted a picture of Jupiter before I was born; this painting completes the cycle. ☺️ What an interesting use case.... I highly recommend you buy the software called Universe Sandbox, you can do this exact scenario and see it with your own eyes. One of my favorite apps! https://universesandbox.com/. Source: 9 months ago
Universe Sandbox is the best version I know of. It is constantly updated as new observations are made. Source: 9 months ago
You can physically demonstrate orbit with some fabric stretched over a frame, but I really think video games are going to be your best friend here. Osmos (Free demo, $5 full) is a great starting point that uses simplified gravity in two dimensions. Orbit (Free app, $5 on Steam) is another, similar game to introduce orbit. Once you've graduated to three dimensions, Universe Sandbox ($30, $20 on GOG) will really... Source: 11 months ago
Https://universesandbox.com/ - is a physics-based space simulator. It merges gravity, climate, collision, and material interactions to reveal the beauty of our universe and the fragility of our planet. Create, destroy, and interact on a scale you've never before imagined.". Source: 11 months ago
As for effects, all those things you describe could certainly happen, up and including the breakup or merger of one or both planets depending on how close the interaction was. The most likely interaction though would be the change of the orbit to one or both of the planets into a completely different orbit. You could try to model some possibilities out in Universe Sandbox if you wanted to find some... Source: 11 months ago
Universe Sandbox is copyrighted and so you would need permission and/or an explicit license to use that soundtrack. I'd drop a note or email to the developers at https://universesandbox.com to ask what is possible. Source: 12 months ago
