I've found the app undermyfork to be really helpful in experimenting with new foods. Like I mentioned, I weigh my food, as I find the serving sizes like "about 5 chips" are always wrong once I weigh 5 chips to see their weight -- this helps me ensure my insulin bolus is accurate.
