When I go to uo.com and click account it takes me to mythic website. Then when I hit log into account it says the site can't be reached. Source: about 1 year ago

UO is still around and just celebrated it's 25th anniversary. uo.com Still an amazing game. Source: over 1 year ago
Ultima Online was released on 24 September 1997. After some close alpha and beta, it's even older for some people, but for us mere mortals, it's twenty-five years old! What an achievement. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago

I've recently got hit hard by a nostalgia while listening to some UO:ML soundtrack and decided to go back and see if there are any good shards left. In my old times I've mostly played the Mondain's Legacy era so it would be kinda cool to get back into that times. Now the question for you guys, what are the best servers to play right now, are the shards from original uo.com good enough to play or it would be better... Source: over 1 year ago
Other than the official Ultima Online you also have the choice to play non-official servers (player run/private servers) which you might see others folks suggest or talk about around here (e.g. UO Outlands is an example of a private non-official server). There's a whole bunch of other free servers if you search around online, some may be good, some ok, and some bad. These servers are UO worlds maintained and ran... Source: almost 2 years ago
You can download the client from uo.com but most freeshards (if that's your chosen route) will offer their own client download. You don't need keys or CDs anymore. But if you have a CD, you can probably install it from that and just patch up. Source: almost 2 years ago
If someone was going to fully take over the website, they should have proficient knowledge of web design, PHP and MySQL. I wrote a lot of custom code for the website which makes it tricky to update. At one point I created an entire event calendar like we used to have on the old uo.com website for people to post their UO events but unfortunately it never caught on so eventually I just scrapped it. So the official server you're thinking of, we are talking about the Official UO ran by the actual studio company who truly owns the rights to UO (which is Broadswoard, who's under EA). The official UO is actually made of many servers called shards which is kind of what to what realms are in WoW. When you start to play the official UO it will ask you to choose a Shard (server) from a list that looks like this. Source: almost 2 years ago
I've been in game dev since the early 1990s, leading efforts on products such as Meridian 59, Ultima Online, The Sims 2, and others. I'm now a professor teaching game design at Indiana University. Source: about 2 years ago
I know what you mean, I soubt I'll ever get to make another MMO; it seems pretty unlikely for me, but if I ever did, I'd want more of a "complete world" as you said. The "Disneyland" approach is one that a lot of devs and designers like, but I've always been more of a world-first designer. Source: about 2 years ago
Yeah. That was why they didn't. It had nothing to do with EA not willing to spend a dime on defending an intellectual property, to the point they just hand the servers off to some independent group of know-nothings to run. If Broadsword told EA that their uo.com domain name was going to expire and they needed some money from them to renew it, EA would tell em to shut the doors and turn the servers off because they... Ultima Online actually still gets regular updates (and surprisingly still published by EA) so technically isn’t a dead IP even if it’s far from its glory days. Source: almost 3 years ago
