If you use javascript for other things and have created an exception to block javascript on nytimes.com then you may have to *ALSO* block javascript at www.nytimes.com which is weird, but it works.   Among other things, once you set it up, you can go to Blocker-->Local-->Add Filterlist from URL-->https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-clean-filters/-/raw/main/bpc-paywall-filter.txt and then read wsj.com, nytimes.com, economist.com, and all sorts of other websites without paywall blocking and ads.
