  I use task warrior to track all my research to-do items, and if I tell it when I start and stop working on a task rather than just marking it done when I'm finished, it'll track time spent on each item.   I use taskwarrior at the beginning of the week. I create a task for each deliverable with a due date, then I create a bunch of subtasks that my deliverable depends on to accomplish. I add all these subtasks to a project with the same name as the deliverable task. Taskwarrior takes care of sorting the priority from there since this means subtasks are to be accomplished first which leaves studying tasks for the rest... Source: 8 months ago
