  I've built a few ecommerce sites using various platforms and the best experience I had for flexibility/custom design was using Snipcart. It's a hosted checkout, to add it to your site you just add add-to-cart buttons with some data attributes, include their script, and you're good to go. Worth trying it out to see if it's a good fit.
