  • How do you wake up on time?
Time bedtime for full sleep cycles - (This is the key) Sleep cycles are typically 90 minutes and if someone wakes up between sleep cycles instead of in the middle, they usually feel more rested. To test this, I timed my bedtime (using sleepcalculator.com) so that I'd be ending a sleep cycle around when my alarm goes off. I made a deal with myself that when my alarm goes off, I take a moment to check how I'm... Source: about 1 year ago

I use a sunrise alarm clock in combination with my phone alarm clock. Combine that with actually catching up on lost sleep by going to bed early for about a year, and using sleepcalculator.com to make sure I didn’t wake up in the middle of a REM cycle, I don’t have issues any more, even on days where I have to forgo 8 hours. • eli5: Why is it so easy get up when waking up in the middle of the sleep period (I.e. 4am) and it's so hard to do so when you actually have to get up everyday (I.e. 7am)
^This, and you can make it easier on yourself at 7am if you adjust when you fall asleep at night. For me, it's best to wake up 7.5 hours after I fall asleep, so if I need to wake up at 7am, I should try to be asleep by 11:30pm. There are sleep calculators (like this one https://sleepcalculator.com/), that you can use to help you determine this, though every body is different, so you might need to play around with it. • LPT request: how to get up in the right time?
It’s counterintuitive but try waking up earlier. I have a really hard time getting up between 6:15-7:30 going to bed at 10-11 but usually wake up naturally around 5:30-5:45. There’s actually a calculator that will tell you the optimal times to go to sleep if you want to get up at a certain time based on average sleep cycles. Sleep Calcukator. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I feel less tired sleeping less than 8 hours than I am sleeping 8 hours
Sometimes it's not how long you sleep that matters but how many sleep cycles you go through. Each person is different so you could be a less than 8 hour person. You can try tracking your sleeping habits to see if any patterns form. Also, https://sleepcalculator.com/ is helpful when you don't sleep at the same time everyday. Source: over 1 year ago

  • IWTL to wake up early & drop the groggy feeling
With respect to your sleep, there are several on-line sleep calculators (ie, https://sleepcalculator.com/) that can help you figure out the optimum bed- or wake-time. The theory is that you want to wake between REM cycles, which take roughly 90min each. It's possible that you're trying to wake up in the middle of a REM cycle, which can lead to heavy grogginess.
