  A lot of the old features have been reactivated through modding. The major ones are riiconnect24, which resurrects a bunch of the original channels, and wiimmfi, which bring back some of the multiplayer capabilities. Besides those, there are other homebrew apps like the Homebrew Browser that can use a network connection (that one lets you download other homebrew without using a computer, for example).
