  • Is there a static site generator that is a good CMS replacement for a non-technical client? Something as simple as WordPress would be to publish changes?
Publii is a static site CMS for desktop users. It is currently very blog/post focused, which might not be what you're looking for. - Source: Reddit / 20 days ago
  • My small unmonitized personal travel blog is Wordpress, hosted on DigitalOcean. Droplet cost just went up to USD 8 a month. Any advice for EASY AWS alternative?
I know it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but if it’s strictly a blog, I’m a fan of static site generators like https://getpublii.com - easy to set up, and you never have to worry about security, cost of hosting, scaling or traffic. Throw it onto GitHub Pages or really any $3 webspace (+Cloudflare if you really have a lot of visitors) and you’re fine forever. It’s all static HTML anyways. - Source: Reddit / 21 days ago
  • WordPress Alternatives for small static website?
For small static sites, Publii could also be a valid option. Not hard to add content and just upload to host. - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
  • Looking for a solution to setup an online gallery for photos.
Maybe a static site made with Publii CMS may fit your needs. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
  • Self hosted personal wiki
I've also just started to look at Publii as a website creation tool as a replacement but it dies lack security for multi-user use :-(. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
  • Not many things in the world are free but wonder if there are any free or super cheap ways to have a website? It's about a hobby I have want to post about and attract people who are into it as well :).
You can always try Publii (https://getpublii.com) and host it on Netlify. Only cost will then be the domain. You can technically host the site without a custom one however (you’ll get a name.netlify.app automatically). - Source: Reddit / 2 months ago
  • Will someone guide me to the right steps/path on creating a website?
If you have no experience with html, css and coding in general, I suggest you to try Publii CMS (getpublii.com). - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • Saran tentang web hosting
Lookup Jamstack, if you're starting from zero, try Publii and deploy it to Github Pages. You'll only need to pay for the domain. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • Is Wordpress still the best engine for portfolio gallery website?
You're still going to have to pay for hosting. If you want something that's truly free, you can host static content with someone like Netlify on their free tier. A static site generator like https://getpublii.com/ will get you started if you aren't comfortable writing your own HTML/CSS with something like https://www.11ty.dev/. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • I am just flabbergasted and in complete stupor (point me to an MS FrontPage alternative)
Here's one that I've been toying with lately. Publii. It's desktop-based, relies on a connection through SFTP, or Git, or S3 (and other cloud schemes) to sync files locally and to a web server, and has Win, macOS , and Linux clients. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Best way to make a giga-simple, minimal, fast website?
You can make a nice and clean website with Publii, host it for free on netlify or cloudflare pages, and if you feel fancy you can embedd a form made with cognito forms (always for free). - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Show HN: I made a CMS that uses Git to store your data
Publii [1] is still an excellent option in the Hugo-but-graphical space. It has a desktop app and allows hosting on GitHub Pages, AWS S3, Netlify and others. [1] https://getpublii.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
  • Benefits of building static content sites using React frameworks (e.g. Next, Gatsby) vs SSG's e.g. (Hugo & Jekyll) when output is essentially the same?
There are even SSGs with a builtin GUI, such as Publii and Autosite. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • Can I host my own website on Oracle Free Tier? Any guide on getting started?
You can set up any CMS such as Wordpress, but unless you really need a dynamic CMS, nowadays you're probably better off with static pages. GetPublii deployed to Cloudflare Pages with videos as YouTube embeds can get you zero latency for worldwide users, if you want to edit posts from anywhere then Eleventy is another great alternative. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
  • A fully open-source and end-to-end encrypted note taking alternative to Evernote
I am more likely to journal and blog if the friction to creating a post is as simple as opening a document and writing. The important part of journalling or note software is that you actually create notes. I did use Hetzner to run a Wordpress blog but it had an overhead of server expenses and keeping Wordpress up-to-date. I don't want my data trapped in a proprietary system where it is difficult to export, so I... - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • [Hobby Scuffles] Week of August 22, 2022 (Rules update + poll)
But then I don't know what to pick with that either! Is Publii any good? It seems like what I'd like to use (especially with being able to generate the HTML files on my own computer instead of having to work on an existing server like WordPress) but maybe I'd be better off getting something more well-known. :u. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
  • Hosting Ghost on Github Pages using Windows?
If you are looking for static site generator & hosting , then instead of Ghost you should give Publii Static Site Generator a try. You can use Publii on windows and can sync with github on a click. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
  • Astro 1.0
Not sure if you've heard of Publii?[0] It's a static blog generator type thing, tried it a few times casually and it seems ok for non-devs to get something simple up and running. The SEO defaults aren't perfect but they're easy enough to change in the software. [0] https://getpublii.com. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Are there any good open source math website builders?
You could use Publii and enable MathJax with the plus side of allowing you to write in markdown. - Source: Reddit / 8 months ago
  • Medium or Substack? Looking for a platform to chronicle my professional journey but not exactly interested in making money from views or subscriptions
You don't really need web dev experience, there are plenty of static site generator tools out there for beginners. Check out Publii, it is very easy. - Source: Reddit / 8 months ago
  • Best free (or very cheap) Website builder?
Publii for an offline option, it's a desktop app that can create and edit static sites. It's free forever but you'll need your own hosting but for your purposes you can probably just deploy your site at https://app.netlify.com/drop under their always free tier. - Source: Reddit / 10 months ago
