Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about OpenCritic and what they use it for.
  • Ex-Kotaku staff go independent and launch Aftermath
I don't think that is very accurate, in my experience the most popular reviews are Personality Driven and it is largely done in the youtube space, the next most popular writen sites are also more neutral when it comes to their reviews (Gamespot, IGN, Gameinformer, Eurogamer). Honestly people just want two things, to hear their favorite content creator talk about the game or have someone say how great it is. But in... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • ‘Metroid Prime Remastered’ Is a Proud Celebration of Letting Older Games Stay Feeling Old
Check out the hall of fame at https://opencritic.com/ instead - no remakes/remasters/ports allowed, so it's all new games (ignoring Trails to Azure, though it's being released worldwide for the first time). Source: about 1 year ago
  • What's up with the user score?
Am I the only one that finds Opencritic to be much better at visualizing the reviews? Source: about 1 year ago
  • What Python library is the best to scrap from OpenCritic?
Import requests Import urllib.parse Games = ['onion asault','Untitled Goose Game','COD'] #need these headers else they know you are scraping and tell you to go get a api key lol Headers = { 'accept':'application/json, text/plain, */*', 'origin':'https://opencritic.com', 'referer':'https://opencritic.com/', 'user-agent':'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36... • Fandom Buys TV Guide, Metacritic, GameSpot and Other Brands for About $50 Million in Cash
Metacritic blows. Rotten tomatoes isn't the best but it's much better than Metacritic for TV and movies and Opencritic is a million times better for video games. Source: over 1 year ago
  • [Fandom] Fandom Acquires Leading Entertainment & Gaming Brands Including GameSpot, TV Guide and Metacritic
I can only think of OpenCritic. But that only focuses on games, so no such luck for movies, shows, and music. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Anyone else?
I use opencritic which is more reliable: Https://opencritic.com/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Game of the year
Https://opencritic.com is miles better. I’ve been donating to them for a while now. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Here's a list of most of the Playstation Plus Extra titles sorted by Metacritic Review
/u/threecatsstaring recommend using https://opencritic.com/ since it unifies scoring on all platforms. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Reviewers are totally unaffected by advertiser dollars....
I really, really, really wish Metacritic would catch on fire. Though hardly better, I would still prefer people use Opencritic anyway, though their major flaw is not having user reviewers, but they're completely useless too as anything more than a litmus test for how the vocal minority is currently feeling about something, and usually a specific thing rather than the game itself.. • Metacritic is falling apart (error 404 and others)
There's Opencritic but seems like it doesn't allow for user reviews. I agree in this state Metacritic is almost unusable for user reviews also given the potential waste of time because of these nonsense errors. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • IGN gives Elden Ring a 10/10: Masterpiece.
I agree, take your pick, all 100 plus say the same thing. https://opencritic.com/. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Beyond Good & Evil 2 Still In Pre-Production After All These Years
Where is the bar for good? 95% of critics recommended it and the campaign is at 79% positive on steam. You are being either unrealistic or biased. Source: about 2 years ago
  • I built a site that combines average critic rating and time to finish a game (link in comments)
The ratings are from https://opencritic.com/. Do you have any problem loading that site? Source: over 2 years ago
  • Why doesn't Epic invest all their money improving their launcher instead of giving games away for free?
The reviews on Steam are terrible. I tend to use OpenCritic to check reviews. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Where's the best place online for WRITTEN video game reviews?
More generally, many of the sites linked on OpenCritic are decent, as they need to meet a certain level of professionalism and acknowledgement to be on there. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Anybody else not actually bought a game so far in 2021?
I have bought a fair few games this year. But do I feel like I got my money's worth on any of them? No not really. 2021 has sucked incredibly hard in terms of game releases. Some would argue that reviews aren't everything, but if you take a look at https://opencritic.com/ and sort by 2021 releases - only 1 game has been reviewed with a metascore of over 90 and that game is a remaster of an old game (Quake). I... Source: over 2 years ago
  • Website where gamers can ask other gamers whether they might like a game, and receive new suggestions based on their personal taste?
There's /r/gamesuggestions as well as http://opencritic.com and many, many, many gaming subreddits, including this one. Source: almost 3 years ago
