I was using a nice gui client for youtube dl just yesterday when it just refused to download a mp3 for some reason. I deleted that client and downloaded this one https://github.com/dsymbol/yt-dlp-gui and it didn't work neither. So then I downloaded this one https://github.com/jely2002/youtube-dl-gui and it didn't work neither. The last one said "Error! Binaries missing/corrupted." So what can I do? Source: over 3 years ago

VLC is a media and network player, not so much a download tool. I'd rather use a free website, youtube-dl or a youtube-dl-based tool. Source: over 3 years ago
I like the idea of using a command-line program for downloading content. It would seem to be simpler in all respects, b/c and despite a GUI. When running Open Video Downloader (youtube-dl-gui) its error however, is " Error! Binaries missing/corrupted. " and recommends "restart the app and disable antivirus. " Has anyone experienced this error? Basically, sounding way to suspect and worth inquiring with a forum. Source: over 3 years ago
And for those who aren't too comfortable with a CLI, there is also a GUI version :-) Https://github.com/jely2002/youtube-dl-gui (I haven't tested / verified this one). Source: over 3 years ago

Not all youtube downloaders work though. The only one I found that works for vr180 videos is Open Video Downloader. Currently after installing it you currently also have to manually download a file missing in the main installer and stick it in the install directory, a simple fix though. Source: over 3 years ago

I recommend JDownloader2 and IDM for most downloads; for videos/Youtube, I'd suggest youtube-dlp plus a GUI like this one. For manga, I use FMD2 or HakuNeko. For websites, I use a combination of browser Save As... And SingleFileZ. Source: almost 4 years ago

Public Opinion on Open Video Downloader (youtube-dl-gui)
Open Video Downloader, often referred to as a GUI for the youtube-dl tool, is recognized within its domain as a straightforward and efficient video downloading solution. The public reception of this software highlights both its strengths and certain challenges, making it a notable option among video downloaders. Here's an overview based on recent discussions and mentions:
Strengths:
User-Friendly Interface: Many users appreciate Open Video Downloader for its graphical user interface (GUI), as it provides an accessible alternative to command-line tools like youtube-dl and yt-dlp. This GUI makes it approachable even for those who might not be comfortable with command-line interfacing, expanding its user base to non-technical individuals.
Feature Set: Users commonly note its ability to handle diverse downloading tasks efficiently, such as downloading individual videos, entire playlists, or just the audio component of a video. Its flexibility is further enhanced by features like sponsor block and codec selection, which add to its appeal for more advanced users.
Freemium Model: The 100% freeware nature of Open Video Downloader makes it a go-to choice for budget-conscious users. It offers a cost-free solution without compromising on functionality, standing out in a competitive field with paid counterparts like 4k Video Downloader and various other applications.
Challenges:
Reliability Issues: Despite its ease of use, there have been reported instances of functional glitches. Notably, some users encounter error messages like "Error! Binaries missing/corrupted," which can disrupt the downloading process. This issue sometimes necessitates workarounds such as reinstalling missing files manually, which can deter less tech-savvy users.
Compatibility Concerns: In several instances, Open Video Downloader has been mentioned as having incomplete or buggy support for specific platforms or scenarios, such as VR180 videos, requiring additional manual intervention from users. Additionally, compatibility with websites beyond YouTube can sometimes be limited, a common challenge among video downloaders.
Support and Updates: While the application self-updates, some users express concerns about its maintenance and technical support, particularly when grappling with errors that are not self-resolving. This can hinder usage especially when prompt solutions are necessary.
Overall Impression:
The public discourse around Open Video Downloader is largely positive, with particular emphasis on its user-friendliness and cost-effectiveness. However, potential users should be aware of the occasional reliability issues and the need for technical patience in resolving errors. Its blend of ease of use with advanced features does suggest it as a strong contender among free video downloaders, particularly for those comfortable with minor troubleshooting. The product's integration of yt-dlp as a backend has been a favorable point, hinting at a robust core functionality. Nonetheless, its effectiveness compared to other downloaders like Video DownloadHelper or Freemake Video Downloader may vary based on specific user needs and contexts.
