  • Tell HN: Laptop Runs Without Battery
    > what software do you recommend for gnu/linux to take input from the UPS to tell the laptop to shutdown? https://networkupstools.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • UPS - USB not recognized
The Synology software is based on N.U.T. https://networkupstools.org and the Plus 1100 (listed on NUT as the Easy Power 1200) is supported in the native package with the 'blazer' driver. If you have the skills, I would SSH into the NAS and see if the device is 'noticed' or better yet recognised by the USB sub-system when you plug it it. (Normal Linux would use the lsusb command to see devices but I have no NAS... Source: 9 months ago
  • What UPS are you using?
Others have answered the hardware part of your question. I have not seen much mention about the software to control graceful shutdowns. For this I suggest you look at the ”Network UPS Tool” (NUT for short) project (https://networkupstools.org/). It is mostly manufacturer agnostic with clients for a vast array of hardware components. • APC Smart Connect
Network UPS Tools is one option: https://networkupstools.org/. Source: 10 months ago
  • Cyberpower UPS issue
So no, the NAS does not monitor the battery level. The UPS does that. The NAS just acts on the messages it receives from the UPS via Synology's version of NUT - Network UPS Tools (https://networkupstools.org/). The NAS will first receive the ON_BATTERY/POWERFAIL signal. Then, eventually the BATTERY_LOW signal at which time the UPS will shutdown. So you really need to set a time for it to shut down *BEFORE* you get... Source: 10 months ago
  • Migration from OMV -> TrueNAS SCALE
I assume you haven't heard of Network UPS Tools? TrueNAS and OMV both use it for their UPS plugin. https://www.kreaweb.be/diy-home-server-2021-software-proxmox-ups/. Source: 11 months ago
  • Trigger shutdown of server based on APC UPS low battery

  • Worth getting an used UPS?
Have you explored NUT? https://networkupstools.org. Source: 11 months ago
  • PowerWalker UPS -> PowerMaster+ Software in Docker?
I use a PowerWalker VI 2200 SHL IEC, which seems to be very similar to yours. Initially I had it directly connected to my homeserver via USB and used NUT. But after a while a bit more equipment got added. So it is now connected to a tiny ARM cube that runs zabbix-proxy and the "server" part of NUT. All the other servers connect their NUT clients to that via network. Source: 11 months ago
  • USB device "disconnect" loop
The NUT documentation can help you with your changes to (I believe) two configuration files so it stops doing this. Source: 12 months ago
  • UPS for DS923+
Under the bonnet Synology uses NUT. So, anything compatible with NUT should be fine. Source: 12 months ago
  • I need an UPS which also works as a USB powered hub, any suggestions?
At some point of the power outage you need to be turning off equipment connected to the UPS before its battery flattens. UPS systems often come with their own software but normally I would use the software known as NUT from https://networkupstools.org as this is more configurable and available on multiple platforms. • Raspberry Pi 4 and Ups
Many normal UPS boxes with USB / Network output are supported by using NUT - the server and / or client runs fine on a Pi. Start with the compatible list on the NUT site and go from there. Eaton / APC / CyberPower / Emmerson are all names I would trust off the top of my head (and I'm sure there are a few more I have forgotten). BEFORE buying a unit do a little research on the different types - Dave's Garage has... Source: about 1 year ago
  • UPS
One of the QNAP UPS connection methods is called "Network UPS Slave", which is compliant with the "Network UPS Tools" protocol (NUT), which can be installed on a separate Linux box (in my case a Raspberry Pi) as a server, with the Pi connecting to the UPS via USB. Source: about 1 year ago
  • My Unraid Dashboard - Share
Most UPS systems that have a USB management port will work with unRAID. Unraid has apcupsd built in, but you can install NUT (Network UPS Tools). Source: about 1 year ago
  • Pi-hole setup
UPS for all vital services and https://networkupstools.org to turn them off with my NAS running the NUT software and the other devices are clients of that. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Rack Upgrade
Https://networkupstools.org/. I’m running both pi hole and nut on one pi 4. Both do not use any resources. Has come in handy as where I live it seems like the grid is in need of updating as we are losing power about every three months. Nut shut down my server and mini pc nice and safe last outage. The outage before I did not have a ups and fried up a 1 month old mini pc I had running on the rack. Source: about 1 year ago
  • APC UPS I am planning to buy can run powerchute. Does it mean it will work with unraid?
As others have recommended - use NUT (Network UPS Tools) It's a plugin in Unraid and fairly straight forward to configure. Source: about 1 year ago
  • First Time Replacing UPS Units
Isn’t the smart ups a joke, the only networking it utilizes is an outside connection to APC’s servers and not any snmp, web guis. I’m in the process of setting up NUT to monitor my APC Smart Ups and an Eaton ups and both nut pulled the data from both of them with no Issues. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Shutdown PoE port via command line
Why not set up NUT on the rpis? Shutting them off via cutting power at the port is just as bad as not having them on a UPS to begin with, NUT has them gracefully shut down. Source: about 1 year ago
  • 2023 Feb 20 Stickied -FAQ- & -HELPDESK- thread - Boot problems? Power supply problems? Display problems? Networking problems? Need ideas? Get help with these and other questions!
NUT exists for use cases like this. I’m just seeing if anyone is aware of a similar mechanism that could be set up on a Pico W ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Source: about 1 year ago
