Another route would be to try a local install of http://manager.io, but that's a bit more web based and he might find it off-putting. - Source: Reddit / 27 days ago
I've been shadow-bookkeeping using manager.io for 5 months now. Manager.io isn't quite as mature as QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021 but for routine micro-business bookkeeping it's just as good as QB. Everyone has different needs so manager.io may or may not work for you. - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
There are many, many things that Excel can do. Proper bookkeeping is not one of them. Do not do this. Normally I would recommend QuickBooks, but they're being mega-douches with their price increases this year. But literally any bookkeeping software would be better than Excel. Manager (https://manager.io) is a new desktop option I've learned about recently. It's free for basic stuff, give it a whirl. Or try... - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
Manager.io, it's a free double bookkeeping accounting software the type that accountants use. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
Maybe take a look at https://manager.io - It's more on the financial end of things but I know it can do quotes and tie quotes/invoices/orders to customer & project records. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
(1) gnucash.org (free) - I haven't used it. I would like to use it but it doesn't appear to support organizations with multiple classes (QB terminology) or divisions (manager.io terminology). - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
Does manager.io handle bank downloads and credit card transaction activity? That matters to me if I am going to test it. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
I do the books for several larger entities and I tried manager.io as well. The interface is simple and for my simpler entities it worked great. The thing that turned me off was the balance sheet--instead of totaling liabilities and equity, it totaled assets and liabilities to arrive at net assets, leaving equity all by itself. It's not by any means incorrect, but it just feels silly, and I couldn't find a way to... - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
I'm bookkeeper for two entities, one simple and one complex. I'm currently experimenting with manager.io for the simple entity. The jury is still out on that, although I'm hopeful. If manager.io can't handle the simple entity then I won't even bother trying the complex. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
3) If QB2019 had better export, I'd have no problem moving to something like GnuCash, or perhaps this manager.io thing that I haven't heard about until tonight. Or I suppose I could just start with 1/1/2022 and re-download transactions from the bank. - Source: Reddit / 8 months ago
Https://manager.io is also nice, although perhaps targeted more towards small businesses. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
Yeah I somehow mangled it while editing. I think I was recommending manager.io there. - Source: Reddit / 9 months ago
I'm a big believer in manager.io for some uses (I even made a video about it!) but we really need to know what OP's accounting needs are before jumping to recommending a specific package. - Source: Reddit / 9 months ago
Have a look at manager.io, you'll never look back. - Source: Reddit / 11 months ago
I use manager.io, it's normal accounting software & free. Easy for an accountant to look at if needed. - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago
If you need multiple simultaneous access, you might want to look into manager.io which has both a self-hosted and a cloud-type version. - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago
Some bank accounts like upbank will automatically categorise things for you. I'm using manager.io, a normal accounting program that you can send straight to your accountant. - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago
There are free open source accounting programs, check out Manager (manager.io). - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago
I do the bookkeeping for two companies. I've started shadow-bookkeeping one of the companies in Manager (see manager.io). A discussion of the pros & cons of Manager vs. Quickbooks is out of scope for this thread. I'll just say that Manager is a very interesting animal! - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago
I'm looking into this and this looks like a ginormous clusterf**k that is going to make moving to manager.io one of the biggest pain in the asses I've ever dealt with. After finally figuring out how to format my customers for batch importing, when it imports it imports the addresses all on one line, even though they are formatted with returns. As much as I'd love to use this new program I think the amount of work... - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago
I've been using manager.io for our small business and it works fine, just that the bank connectivity feature is limited, thus I tried to move to QB and ended up with subscribing to QBO. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
