  • Is Christmas Carol not digital?
Hi! My kids were just listening to the first chapter of A Christmas Carol offered on 24 Days of Yoto. Are they seriously not offering the rest of this as a digital download? Please tell me I'm missing it. The processing/shipping time of physical cards is not awesome to my city (like weeks) so for seasonal things like this it doesn't make sense for us unless I plan way ahead. I can't imagine they would miss... Source: 5 months ago
  • Audiobook platform for schools? Have been looking in vain.
Hello all, does anyone know of a platform specifically made to cater to schools? I think Audible used to have one, but it's either discontinued entirely, or no longer available in Europe. I've found a couple made within educational systems (e.g. UK system) but not available to other countries. The closest I've come so far is libro.fm for business - waiting to hear back from them to see if it's suitable. I'm truly... Source: 5 months ago
  • It is important that ebooks be sold without DRM
    Big stores that sell DRM-free e-books: - https://www.ebooks.com/en-uk/drm-free/ - https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/ Audiobooks: - https://libro.fm/ - https://www.downpour.com/ Other lists and tips: - https://libreture.com/bookshops/ - https://aperiodic.net/phil/archives/Geekery/where-to-get-ebooks/ (Here in Norway we've so far been lucky, I've yet to see e-books with DRM. There's ebok.no which does watermarks, but... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • It is important that ebooks be sold without DRM
Whenever I buy something, I start by trying to find a DRM-free version. ebooks.com has a whole section devoted to this (https://www.ebooks.com/en-us/drm-free/) and https://libro.fm exclusively sells DRM-free. Failing that, I mostly get things from my local library (via Libby). Conveniently, those all have weak DRM, so one could still build a personal library that way. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • Cory Doctorow's new book on beating big tech at its own game
A slight quibble: > They require mandatory DRM for every book sold, locking those books forever to Amazon's monopoly platform. If you break up with Amazon, you have to throw away your entire audiobook library. While it's true that your purchases are tied to your Amazon account, they are not tied to your audible subscription (if you have one). That's a nice touch. Even better, the DRM is trivially easy to... - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • June put me at 57/100, favorites were Tress of the Emerald Sea and Crying in H Mart.
Tress of the Emerald Sea was so good! I used my libro.fm credit to get another Sanderson book because of it. Source: 10 months ago
  • considering switching membership from downpour to libro.fm - thoughts?
I don't know anything about Downpour, but I've been a libro.fm subscriber for a couple of years and I haven't had any issues with it. I get 1 credit per month; the credits never expire, the files download as MP3 if you download them directly or you can use their app to download/play the books. I have a Pixel and the app works great, although I don't see any way you'd be able to add any other books not from libro... Source: 10 months ago
  • Books where the female lead does NOT forgive her partner for cheating
My library still hasn't stocked copies and I should get one of the first ones thanks to Notify Me on Libby but can I possibly wait this long? They should have got it last month. May need to use a libro.fm credit if they don't hurry... Source: 11 months ago
  • Audiobook Awareness Month📚🎧
Libro.fm is an audiobook platform that offers a unique way to support local independent bookstores. With over 150,000 audiobooks available, users can choose from a wide range of genres, including new releases, bestsellers, and hidden gems. Unlike some other audiobook platforms, Libro.fm offers audiobooks without digital rights management (DRM) protection, giving users the freedom to listen to their purchases on... Source: 11 months ago
  • Ways to Check Multiple Audiobook Options at Once
You have to set up the extension with the libraries you want to check and other sites like libro.fm. From checking my settings options, I do see Scribd listed. Source: 11 months ago
  • Recommendations on where I can buy audiobooks (to keep)
Besides downpour.com, there is libro.fm which supports independent bookstores and has DRM free files you can download and use freely. Source: 11 months ago
  • Where do you get your books?
I will third libro.fm. They have a great selection of more popular books. I find that between Libro and Libby, I can get almost anything I want (though if it is on Libby, I might need to be patient). Maybe once a quarter or so there is a book that neither of them have and I need to go back to Audible. Typically, at that point, Audible will give me an offer to get a free book and I can get the book and cancel... Source: about 1 year ago
  • Bookshop.org Survives–and Thrives–In Amazon’s World
Https://libro.fm/ is an audiobook store with a similar model to Bookshop.org, they partner with local bookstores and share some profits. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Similar to Molly Harper
I enjoyed reading the first 2 of Angela Sander's Witch Way series, and I see that some larger library systems have them in audio. Also, libro.fm has them (I'm an Audible and Amazon avoider). Source: about 1 year ago
  • [Hobby Scuffles] Week of March 27, 2023
Broken Homes was what finally got me to subscribe to Libro.fm. Up until now, I've been getting audiobooks via a Scribd subscription or the library, but Scribd didn't have this one, and there were three patrons ahead of me on the Hold list, and we really wanted to start that book TONIGHT. In hindsight, it is silly that I waited so long. Libro.fm look like a wonderful outfit, very affordable as well as being good... Source: about 1 year ago
  • Audible.com or audiobooks.com?
So if I do audio books outside of Libby, I like libro.fm as well. Just like my money going to LBS or libraries personally. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Audio book recommendations
I would love to do the audio dramas but I'm really frustrated that Star Wars books have such strict DRM that libro.fm is unable to carry them. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Tress of the Emerald Sea
I was a fool and went to libro.fm for Well of Ascencion and Hero of Ages, so now my Brandon Sanderson collection looks incomplete in Audible. 🥲. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Book recommendations for the baby/future toddler (not parenting books)
As for buying these books PLEASE don't go to amazon! (Although I see you are in Romania, so I don't know if bookshop.org works in Europe!) Find your local independent book store, OR if you don't have one near you, shop on bookshop.org. On bookshop, you can either select your local bookstore to share profits with, or if you don't select one, they do a profit pool twice a year, and divide all their profits between... • Sanderson Weekly Update January 17, 2023
I've seen other people on this subreddit recommend https://libro.fm/. Haven't tried them myself. Source: over 1 year ago

And https://libro.fm for audiobooks which allows you to choose your local indie to support! Source: over 1 year ago
