  • How Python virtual environments work
Quite typical: Linux Mint, managed by apt with a third party repository [1]. On Mac I simply use the official installers from python.org. [1] https://launchpad.net/~deadsnakes/+archive/ubuntu/ppa. - Source: Hacker News / 20 days ago
  • Cheerp 3.0: The most advanced C++ compiler for the Web now permissively licensed
    > You can download Cheerp here. For Debian/Ubuntu, consider using our PPA > https://launchpad.net/~leaningtech-dev/+archive/ubuntu/cheerp-ppa They recommend using an Ubuntu PPA with Debian? That's... Definitely a bold strategy. Let's hope it works out for them. (I mean, given that they themselves suggest doing so, I take it that's the PPA has been properly tested on Debian, and that they'll answer support requests... - Source: Hacker News / 18 days ago
  • 22.04.2 LTS
Well, I think /u/mikechant is correct that the whole release bump has more to do with availability of the ISO, than a whole slew of updates for installed systems. 22.04.2 will have 5.19 as the default kernel for install and that's the big one. In the past, there've been updates to various gnome components, but I don't know if they're slated for the x.2 release. There's nothing in the phased-update pipleline so... - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
  • Fastest Linux Distro? 2023

  • Ubuntu's priorities are garbage
    5) In you particular case, this might turn out to be a bug, so please open one on launchpad.net, so developers can investigate and hopefully fix it. Even though the "bug" should be fixed by Nvidia, I find the open source community to be more responsive. Let's make an analogy. Say you have an issue with a printer driver on Windows, wouldn't you first seek help from the printer manufacturer? In any case, send me the... - Source: Reddit / 2 months ago

  • Is it possible to publish a .NET 7 console app to launchpad ppa?
I didn't ask how to create a .deb file, but a ppa. A launchpad ppa has to be compiled by a server owned by https://launchpad.net. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Ubuntu's Snap performs application updates without user consent
Https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/ubuntu/ppa Make sure to pin it and/or neutralize snap so it takes precedence. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago

  • Canonical releases Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu
For me it is just Firefox that I don't want in snap form. The Mozilla team still puts out a .deb version via PPA [0]. You should probably also pin to this source so that the snaps don't get installed [1]. • ZFS 2.1.6 Released
I've had good results with this PPA for using later versions of ZFS on earlier Ubuntu versions (though it's only at zfs 2.1.5 at the moment, but it should be updated in not too long): https://launchpad.net/~jonathonf/+archive/ubuntu/zfs. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • How to report a bug in Kubuntu PPA ?
If you believe you might have found a packaging bug, you can use launchpad.net to post testing feedback to the Kubuntu team as a bug, or give feedback on IRC [1], or mailing lists [2]. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago

Hey, TIL that launchpad.net / Ubuntu One still (as of May 2022) supports YubiOTP. So in theory, you could use your YubiKey Standard for that. - Source: Reddit / 11 months ago
  • Firefox on Ubuntu 22.04 from .deb (not from snap)

  • Firefox on Ubuntu 22.04 from .deb (not from snap)
Someone on the Mozilla team seems to distribute DEB files: https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/ubuntu/ppa Lots of projects seem to producing DEB files. I think they're the most common shared distribution format except for maybe PKGBUILD files for Arch. Loads of projects have their own package repositories but cross distro distributions like Flatpak and Snap tend to be recommended before the docs refer to... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Ask HN: Why is the Ubuntu Software Center so buggy?
Adding your own PPA’s to get even recent versions of things is not a great UX imho. For example for up-to-date VIM you need to add ppa: https://launchpad.net/~jonathonf/+archive/ubuntu/vim. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
