I have been using Karabiner elements (https://karabiner-elements.pqrs.org), they allow keyboard customization, I have switched the colon and semicolon key, by default without pressing shift, the key will output colon (:) , I find this useful as I type lot of colon daily. There are two options here - there is an application called Swift Quit (https://swiftquit.com) which will quit the entire app when the last window is closed and the second option is using Karabiner-Elements (https://karabiner-elements.pqrs.org) where you can adjust any key combination to close the entire application.
