When you said hopefully to include player campaign notes, I thought of kanka. It's somewhat less feature-rich, I think, but it is potentially-free and collaborative. Source: over 1 year ago
Our group has been using Kanka (https://kanka.io/en) for the past few years and it’s been super helpful. Source: almost 2 years ago
Some people I know have recommended kanka: https://kanka.io/en. Source: about 2 years ago
I use Kanka, I’ve found it to be excellent. A few key points: - there are loads of different page types you can create, characters, locations, organisations, items, it’s quite varied. Although you can’t make custom ones I’ve never needed to. - you can easily link to other pages within your Kanka campaign by typing and @ followed by the name of the page, so @Barry will pop up a list for you to select from your... I've also heard some pretty good things about Kanka (https://kanka.io/en), though I haven't tried it myself yet. Source: over 2 years ago
I'd like to drop another big fat recommendation for Kanka; I had been researching various campaign management solutions off-and-on, so when a thread on the topic appeared here 3 months ago I took a deeper dive into it and made a summary of what I found. The short version is if you're looking for something more than OneNote/Google Doc-level, Kanka frankly beats the pants off everything else available as a free... Source: over 2 years ago
There is also Kanka which is like WorldAnvil, but you can create secrets (i.e. Wiki entries that you can see but players can't) for free, whereas you need to have a subscription to do that in WorldAnvil. Both Kanka and WA can also support campaign and session notes but I find Notion less cluttered and smoother with more formatting options and works great on mobile too with its own app. Source: over 2 years ago
Kanka - The free tier says it has all core features, but their tiers page implies that only paid tiers can have images on pages, which may be a dealbreaker. It also has ads. The paid tiers only give you a limited number of "boosts" that give campaigns the premium features such as no ads and more pictures, so you have to pay more and more for additional campaigns; $5/mo for 3, $10/mo for 6, and $25/mo (!!!) for... Kanka: a (free) wiki-like website for your game/creation, you can see some exemple here. Before that I was using DMmaps + OneNote but with Kanka it's much easier and smoother. Source: about 3 years ago
As for my notes, I use a big 9" by 12" spiral bound drawing booklet to scribble all types of notes during play. I eventually go and organize them into something more legible. I recently found Kanka.io which is a wiki designed for RPG's and I'm building out all the characters and notes into that for a database for me and the runners. Source: about 3 years ago
