  • Why does the New menu even exist for creating new empty files?
Get-FileHash myfile.txt An optional -Algorithm flag lets you choose between MD5, SHA256, etc. It's really handy and nice to have this built-in. For 3rd party options I really like HashTab [0] which is free for personal use. It places a configurable list of hashes in right-click > Properties, with a bonus of comparing the hashes against one you might already have on your clipboard and giving you a green "OK" if it... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Geofront Zero and Azure checksum information
There's a neat 3rd party Windows util that can give you the checksum of stuff in the right-click -> Properties menu. http://implbits.com/products/hashtab/. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Add MD5 Checksum to Windows Explorer context menu
Not for nothing, I use HashTab now. http://implbits.com/products/hashtab/. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • True story
Just verify the hash using something like HashTab (adds hashes to the properties menu of every file!) to verify you got the real deal. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Just converted a ton of Saturn games with CHDMAN v.200 and not the latest v.231 - Did I break something?
I use HashTab personally: http://implbits.com/products/hashtab/ it adds a "File Hashes" tab when you right click > properties a file, like this: https://cdn.freewarefiles.com/screenshot/hashtab.jpg. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Hi, I am trying to join the Linux community but I have a couple of questions
On the download page for the distro, there will be other files such as *.sig, *.sha256, and *.sha512. These are "check files" included for security. The .sig or .asc file is a GNU Privacy Guard cryptographic signature, and you will need GPG4Win to check it. The .sha256, sha512sum, or whatever combination of the names is a MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA512, or other hash, and you will need HashTab to check it. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • DJ Related ??? - Master files - Copying files degrades each time???
I use http://implbits.com/products/hashtab/ just for ease of use. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Tools & Info for Sysadmins - Network Automation, Shell Scripting, Sed Cheatsheet & More
I like Hashtab to quickly calculate checksums for files. Source: about 3 years ago
