It might be worth to switch to GrapheneOS if you have Pixel phones: https://grapheneos.org/ It is a more serious project than LineageOS in the sense that they take security very seriously and they take their development more professionally too. There are no disadvantages to using GrapheneOS compared to LineageOS. You can see a comparison here: https://eylenburg.github.io/android_comparison.htm. - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago

Ironically, Pixels are the best for de-Googling. GrapheneOS requires a Pixel, as does CalyxOS for the most part. If you don't want your money going to Google, a used/refurb Pixel gets around that in my opinion. Source: 10 months ago

"It's really fucking rare to run into a girl without an iPhone" made me chuckle to think of myself as rare in some dimension. I'm "a girl" and not only am I without an iPhone I run https://grapheneos.org on my phone. Probably a fucking unicorn over here haha. Source: 11 months ago
Depending on your technical capability and inclination, an old unlocked Google Pixel from Swappa running GrapheneOS will give you a capable and maintained Android platform which will provide about as sophisticated a mobile audio player as you can get for minimal cost. Source: 11 months ago

I haven't considered rooting my phone, unlocking the bootloader or anything that until I found out about https://grapheneos.org/ ROM. It's privacy focused OS that I first heard about from Louis Rossmann. This ROM only works on Pixels however. Maybe I'll give it a try eventually haha. I like the idea of Google not constantly listening to me XD. Source: 11 months ago
Off-topic: If you are tech savvy you could give new life to an older phone, e.g. An older phone stuck on Android 10 could be brought back to life using Lineage OS https://lineageos.org/ (or Graphene OS https://grapheneos.org/ if you have a Pixel phone). Source: 11 months ago
