  Just FYI: You can manage your storage with the built-in Apple storage management facility ( menu > About This Mac > Storage > Manage).   The storage optimization is limited to the contents of your Desktop and Documents folders. If you have files located elsewhere, say Downloads for instance, the optimization doesn’t work for that. What is it that you see under the Storage tab of About This Mac?
