California State gas/diesel taxes are high - I think around $1.55/gallon. California has the most highways in the country. They need a lot of maintenance. The drought that we just came out of last winter cracked a lot of blacktop. In addition EV's and hybrids (which are huge in CA) use little or no gas so the revenue of the old 30MPG market is shrinking. Thus the "use tax". That said Texas is always cheaper due... Totally ridiculous situation. Temporary solution...check gasbuddy.com to see who has gas and...yes go in the middle of the night. I went at 3 am and the line was 15 minutes. It sucks but at least I put gas. Source: about 1 year ago
Do not quit your school. You are in California so Denti-Cal exists. Dugoni (SF) accepts Denti-Cal and is 40% off. Do not buy a "new" car. Buy a "new to you" car. Used Toyotas can last, so can Hondas if you maintain them. If you are in SF Bay Area, get Second Harvest which will save on food. Save money on Gas with gasbuddy.com. Move to a cheaper area. Talked to someone at the McDonald Observatory and said Fort Stockton a good place to stop when coming from Austin. Depending on gas mileage, etc. Sonora another good stopping point. Not so concerned about cheap gas but gasbuddy.com ratings on gas stations looks really informative. Of course on first trip out to West Texas have to get a picture of you and your group in front of Fort Stockton's Paisano Pete. Source: about 1 year ago
Gasbuddy.com is useful to pin down real-time gas prices across the country. Although gas prices fluctuate, it shouldn't be difficult to reasonably accurately estimate your total fuel costs before you hit the road. Source: about 1 year ago
Thanks for the info! I checked out gasbuddy.com and they have reviews of gas stations. Same for Google. Discovered a whole new genre of literature: bathroom reviews for gas stations. Reading them thinking maybe just stop at a McDonald restaurant to use their bathroom. Leave Austin with a full tank of gas till get to Fort Davis and the McDonald Observatory. I do recommend gasbuddy.com (either the website or the app) for those who may not be aware of being able to compare fairly real-time gas prices in an area. Source: over 1 year ago

Data from gasbuddy.com. 1 gallon of regular at one particular Chevron in Torrance, CA is $5.19. Premium for $5.59. Diesel for $5.89. These are not the highest for the area. And the kicker? There is a Chevron refinery in El Segundo, CA, just 12 miles away. Source: over 1 year ago

According to gasbuddy.com, despite gas being lower than the peak 20-some days ago, there were several days in that period when it stayed the same as the previous day, so "in a row" is a lie. It's also still more than double the price it was when Biden took office. Source: almost 2 years ago
For anybody who's wondering if gas prices are really coming down (I certainly understand that certain news outlets in the US aren't covering this), gasbuddy.com is a great resource. You can track the nationwide average as well as prices in various metro markets. Again, I understand that it's not in line with the Fox News narrative, but gasbuddy.com does not have any reason to fiddle with the numbers. Source: almost 2 years ago
Use gasbuddy.com (other resources are probably available). Reward those who are lowering their prices. Source: almost 2 years ago
Sounds exactly like gasbuddy.com's "plan your trip" feature. You enter your vehicles specs (milage/tank size, etc) then your starting and end destinations, and the app will find the lowest price gas stations and adjust your stops to get you the cheapest trip. Source: almost 2 years ago
Sign up for gasbuddy.com and get the free "debit" card(just a card linked to your bank account). You can then check for available discounts on gas at gas stations. The gas station I normally fill up at I regularly see 15 to 25c off per gallon. Been using it for 2 months and have saved 18$. You have to pre activate the discont tho on the app and then it locks in the discount for 4 hours. Not all gas stations work... Source: almost 2 years ago
