  • Signal Is Asking People Around the World to Help Iranians Access the Encrypted App
If you want something that's more of a Slack/Discord alternative, gajim is receiving a lot of attention and polish lately, with Dino and Beagle as simpler alternatives. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • For those who care about real privacy
I used Pidgin back in the day of AIM and ICQ, but nowadays, for XMPP, there’s Dino and Gajim for desktop and Conversations.im for Android. As far as I know, OTR has been superseded or replaced by OMEMO in most clients. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • Free Instant/Private Messaging Software for Two People (One with a Chromebook, the other with a Windows PC)
Https://gajim.org/ is a pretty good one. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago

  • a way to send short messages between devices?
On the desktop I use the gajim XMPP client. On my phones I use Conversations and Blabber (the latter is a fork of Conversations), and all messages between clients are encrypted with OMEMO. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • Has anyone used kontalk before?
As for Snikket not having a desktop client, I know that's a limitation for many. However any modern XMPP desktop client should generally work, we usually recommend Gajim or Dino (both have small downsides, but they are under active development and that's good news - e.g. Gajim plans to support calls, and Dino is spreading to new platforms such as Windows). If Kontalk's desktop client is XMPP-compliant, that may... - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • NEEE HELP!
Gajim and Dino both work on Windows and Linux and support most features you'd expect (Gajim is mature, Dino is a newer project and Windows support is still experimental). There is also Movim, a web client. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • WhatsApp enables multi-device capability
    >What about iOS? [Siskin] [1] seems to be the best client for iOS right now. It's not as good as Conversations. >What about desktop? I am pretty happy with beagle (OSX) [2], Dino (Linux) [3] and Gajim (linux, windows, OSX) [4]. If in-browser is your thing, converse.js [5] or movim [6] come to mind. >What if I don't want to run my own XMPP server? Use quicksy.im? • Google Voice alternative for multiplatform call & text for personal use
While it's true there are multiple clients that can work, we do have some recommendations. Notably, we test to make sure things are working with Conversations (for Android) before calling something done, and often test with Gajim and Movim as well. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • WHAT I DO FOR A COOL HOBBY -- I AM A CHATBOX HERO
YO. I host an XMPP server. Registration is open on 3 hosts: "Toofast.vip", "Hardelectronic.vip" or "Macceo.Co" for Eve Online related stuff. Once registered you can use that JID (jabber ID) for use on any federated MUC (multi user chat). On other servers! That's a beauty of XMPP (https://xmpp.org) is that it's decentralized, and opensource. You can use for desktop (my recommendation) https://gajim.org and... - Source: Reddit / almost 2 years ago
  • Element Matrix Services Launches Bridging for Microsoft Teams
If you like Pidgin I'd recommend https://gajim.org/ - it has a similar feel to the UI, is cross-platform and actively developed. Use it with a modern up-to-date server (see https://joinjabber.org/ for some general advice, and https://compliance.conversations.im/ for testing a specific server). - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • For Muslims and. On Muslims to interactively learn Islam and connect usa/Uk and abroad
In this case, I would rather suggest others to use the likes of Element a Matrix client, or e.g. RetroShare, Briar, OnionShare, or e.g. XMPP with the clients like Dino, Conversations, Gajim, ChatSecure. - Source: Reddit / almost 2 years ago
