With standard computers, I usually deploy something like the fog project and automate the process over pxe with scheduled reboots. I guess you could do that as well with your VMs but that seems overkill. Source: about 1 month ago
You could setup a PXE server and automate installs. You could also clone them and reapply the image as needed. https://fogproject.org/ or lookup CloneZilla both are open source. Source: about 1 month ago
Microsoft used to have a free tool called SteadyState to do this, but it's been discontinued for a while. It took a different approach of undoing changes rather than restoring from image but it worked great with Kiosk mode. There are remote management tools that can wipe and reimage managed machines, most of them don't require an AD domain. As an example FOG Project. Source: about 2 months ago
For imaging, this might be worth checking out as a low-cost solution: https://fogproject.org/. Source: about 2 months ago

I've been trying to learn ansible/terraform but it won't work here so I think I'll look closer at the link you provided - and also https://fogproject.org/ - which is completely new territory for me - and see if I can come up with the easiest/best solution... Source: 4 months ago
There's also another option if you are just starting out and like using Linux. It's called FogProject. Very similar to MDT/WDS, except it is open source and runs from Linux. It will deploy to Windows, Linux and MacOS. Source: 4 months ago
If you are cool with open source Check out fog. Source: 4 months ago
Oof... Ghosting, and managing isos... Desktop imaging was a PITA. https://fogproject.org/ was a godsend. Source: 4 months ago
We’ve been using FOG (Free Open-source Ghost) for years now. Source: 4 months ago
Are all the PCs in the same office? I used https://fogproject.org/ to reimage Windows and Linux PCs. You need one server per office, the BIOS boots into PXE (network) and finds the FOG server and the reimage can start. The webpage says that it can reimage Mac OS as well. Source: 4 months ago

FOG but it's not worth the setup for me personally that I just use rescuezilla. Source: 5 months ago
Used to use FOG at previous job. Highly recommend. https://fogproject.org/. Source: 8 months ago

It's been years since I went down that path, but I think FOG has this (or similar enough) functionality. Source: 9 months ago
If you want a good free imaging tool, check out https://fogproject.org/. Source: 9 months ago
If you were doing this on many identical machines then FOG project might be for you but one or two I'd just use DD and enjoy my day. Source: 9 months ago
You would typically use an image of the Windows OS hosted on a PXE (Pre Execute Environment) imaging server like FOG then you would network boot the target system to lay down the image on it. Source: 9 months ago
You can use FOG or you can use WDS). Fog may be the easier route to go as it may be easier to provision but you need a windows image to load. WDS will allow you to use installation media to load up windows. FOG also doesn’t play well with Secure boot so you have to disable it, WDS does play well with secure boot. Both will involve setting up an adhoc network or modifying the DHCP server, if you use Windows Server... Source: 10 months ago
