  • How can I securely clean my laptop before I recycle it?
If you’re worried about such people try deriks boot and nuke Https://dban.org. Source: 10 months ago
  • How do I permanently erase files, no chance of recovery?
Presuming you want to sell it with windows running, first make a Window boot disk so you can recover. Then use DBAN (https://dban.org/) to completely wipe the drive. Then reinstall Windows up to the setup stage. The new owner will experience it as a new computer. Source: 10 months ago
  • Secure Erase vs Sanitize
An alternative to Parted is DBAN Darik's Boot and Nuke We use this for most full Drive wipes Https://dban.org/. Source: 10 months ago
  • (Question) Cheapest method to destroy the (content of) hard drive
I do love all the creative ways to completely destroy a drive, but in general you should just be able to use DBAN if you just want to wipe the drive to make data recovery near impossible, but still be able to use it afterwards. Source: 10 months ago
  • How to erase/shred/wipe SSD securely on Windows and Ubuntu?
You have a few options. The easiest in my opinion is just to smash the hard drives (assuming you don't want to reuse or sell them). Otherwise I use DBAN for permanently wiping HDDs: https://dban.org/ Try using your motherboard's UEFI BIOS for SSD or maybe even the manufacturer's utility if you have one. Source: 11 months ago
  • Destroying old hard drives
You can use DBAN to nuke the hard drives, thereby permanently wiping any sensitive information from it before disposing of it. Source: 12 months ago
  • how to wipe a hard drive without alerting the owner?
How you do it is up to you. If you want to take out the whole drive (including information that isn't yours, which you probably shouldn't do - but that is up to you) then I recommend using Darik's Boot and Nuke. This will overwrite the drive with random data. Have it do 3 to 7 passes to meet DoD standards (although they will do that and then physically destroy the drives for the really sensitive stuff). • How to sell an old laptop to a refurbisher?
If you are selling it with the drives intact then wipe them using something like DBAN. To be honest this really overkill but it is about as certain as you can get without physically destroying the drives. Source: 12 months ago
  • Problem with resetting pc to resell it.
There are several softwares that can securely erase data. For example, DBAN. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Hiren boot problem
You might be referring to DBAN, but as others have said, that's overkill in this situation. Source: about 1 year ago
  • My friend needs some help
If her laptop has a mechanical hard drive, running multiple passes with DBAN is probably the easiest way. If it has a solid state drive, run one full pass with DBAN and then issue the ATA Secure Erase command to the drive. (The single DBAN pass is to account for inferior ATA Secure Erase implementations in some drives.) It may take hours or days for these to complete, depending on the size of the drive and the... • This mornings finds.
You can even recover data off the HDDs (if they weren't properly formatted with like DBAN)... 🤔😎. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Wiping drive that has win 10
If you're going for a proper wipe, DBAN for HDDs, or your SSD vendor's secure erase tool for SSDs. Source: over 1 year ago
  • No, ChatGPT won't write your malware anymore
This is a nice demonstration of the fact that its impossible to prove a request or piece of code is not malicious. Even something as simple as code that erases all data on all connected media has both malicious and non-malicious uses - e.g. dban. Source: over 1 year ago
  • "Wipe" drive by encrypting?
Https://dban.org/ I think, it is the most reliable one to wipe the drive. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Can anyone give me a decent solution to clean up my external hdds?
It all depends what you are going to do with them. My suggestion is https://dban.org it will wipe every thing off to the point you must reinstall the OS. Their is similar app like this one too. Good luck. Source: over 1 year ago
  • ILPT Request How do I kill a HDD without physically damaging it?
If you want to completely wipe a drive full of data and fill it with 0s, I suggest using Dariks Boot and Nuke (or DBAN for short). I recommend using this about 2 or 3 times to ensure the drive is fully wiped. here's a tutorial on how to use it, now why you would want to completely nuke the data from a drive is sus, but I don't really care either way. Have fun OP! Source: over 1 year ago
  • "What's in the emails is staggering and as a father, it turned my stomach." -NYPD Chief on Anthony Weiner's laptop, which NYPD got to first. Many sources have said an equal level of horrifying child rape exists on Hunter's laptop. But taxpayers pay the CIA to kill JFK, do 9/11/COVID, protect pedos
There are also Tools which do what's called a "secure erase" where they basically just overwrite the entire drive a few times over. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Overwriting old HDDs within Win10
I am using dban (https://dban.org/) for data removing. Working fine to me, free and decent tool. Source: over 1 year ago

If you're paranoid about discarding/selling old drives, look into tools that will securely erase your drive. Linux has its shred command, for example. Or if you're looking for something quick and easy you can put on a USB drive, check out DBAN. Source: over 1 year ago
