Personally, one solution is to subsrcibe for Nebula + CurisoityStream bundle to support creators (bought 2 subscriptions for me and friend) https://curiositystream.com/?coupon=nebula and use something like PeerTube for the rest of the stuff. Youtube have great catalogue of the lectures and other educational material, so it is still kinda irreplaceable. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago

For CuriosityStream, the deal is right on their site. In addition to HD, also includes 4K ($42 per year instead of $70). However, some YouTube channels may have this similar deal, but also throw in Nebula for free. If so, note that Nebula will (should) be provided at no additional cost so long as you do NOT cancel your CS sub. However, the annual deals on CS are only for the first year. Source: over 1 year ago

They seem good, though I am yet to try. Any more? Any diamond in the... - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
