I have just begun a place study of Chipilo, Puebla, Mexico [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Chipilo%2C_Puebla_One_Place_Study] which is an Italian town founded by North Italians in 1882, at https://wikitree.com Do you think your ancestor is related to this place? There is a great website (wikitree.com) that has a group dedicated to helping resolve NPEs all way back through your tree, as much as they can. Obviously the more recent, the more people tested, and the more accurate/available the public records are the easier it'll be, but you might want to enlist their help. Source: 12 months ago

My sister did do an ancestry.com DNA test, but it was super underwhelming since it was just 100% Japanese, with no regional breakdown. I think 23andMe does a better job and at least has Japanese regions, but unfortunately we went with the budget option. Source: 4 months ago
