  • What kind of advertising data can be gotten from IPv6?
Websites can get the routers IPv6 address by running a tracert to the client. After they got the mac address, they can fill the mac address (sometimes you need to add 1 or 2 to the last oclet) into online wifi location tools (like wigle.net) to get a very precise information about someone's location. - Source: Reddit / 5 days ago
  • What these 16 USB internet sticks are doing there?
You can check how precise your current cell towers are with Wigle (App) and/or OpenCellID, for example. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
  • What do you call your home wifi ssid? Dangers of using family name?
It's even more of a risk if you have a really uncommon name, since I can then look it up on wigle.net and possibly find its location. I would also know that you probably aren't home. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • How do I opt my access point out of Google Location services?
Note that publicly-searchable AP databases such as https://wigle.net/ operate on the BSSID MAC address (serial number, effectively) of the base station/AP. Packets are transmitted with this information unencrypted at all times. This means that when you move your AP from your old house to your new, your move is publicly visible unless you replace your AP when moving. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • How do I opt my access point out of Google Location services?
Note that there are other AP location databases in addition to Google's, such as Apple's or https://wigle.net/ . - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago

  • Question unrelated to Cellmapper.
Hi, I found this website and it linked to this site and it seems to do a similar thing to cellmapper. I was wondering if it was any good, the people here in the reddit seem to know what their doing so I was just wondering. This is a legit question, I am not trying to advertise. If Y'all want me to delete the post then I will. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago

  • Trying to locate a cell tower
I also attempted to read data from OpenCellID, however I found that apparently OCID has a lot of bad data (Primarily data listed under the wrong carrier). For example with OCID I told it to list the 10 T-Mobile towers nearest to me and only 6 of the results were actually T-Mobile. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • Sorry if it’s a repost. It’s new to me
Literally everyone has cell tower data.. https://opencellid.org/. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
