Started with Duolingo before I got too committed to the language, confirmed I was interested and dedicated to daily learning and so got a textbook that had available audio (often found on youtube after some digging), and saw the most improvement when I joined a language site that had lessons. Unless you enjoy grammar, that is. But anything that makes it more of a slog (less fun) will be deadly to you now. AT this point it's not about remembering the exact correct declention of Dativ, Genetiv, etc. I honestly think that just comes with practice, practice, practice.
